So, who is Kayla Illies?
I’ve always been a creative soul! I am passionate about life, creating memories with my wonderful husband, my family and friends, traveling and exploring all the beautiful places in the world, horses, coffee, the color pink, all things romantic, and of course photography! I’m a very determined, kind, loving, happy, stubborn, go getting kind of girl!
How did you first get started?
I was sixteen when I first discovered my love for photography. I enjoyed taking photos and capturing memories so much that I would often come home from our family vacations with over 2,500 photos! In high school, I took a photography class and that’s when I decided I wanted to be a photographer as my lifelong career since I am so VERY very passionate about it. It’s been the second best decision I’ve made in my life, marrying my wonderful husband was my first best decision!
After graduating, I went on to attend Ridgewater College for two years where I graduated with my ‘Professional Photographer’s’ Diploma. Following my graduation in May of 2009, I started Kayla Illies Photography and have been expanding ever since.
Continuing my education has always been important to me! I am a member of several local photography groups and attend as many photography conventions as I can every year! I’m always striving to become the best photographer I can be and to grow better as a person!
What is the best part about your job?
Everyday is a new adventure and I love to experience it! I’m a coffee addict and wine lover, so if you want to meet up at a cute coffee shop or a winery to discuss your photos, I’m all for it! The freedom to connect with my clients and to have a chance to really get to know them as a couple is so special to me and makes my heart so happy! I also love to connect and network with other wedding vendors or creatives and love creating lasting relationships with them too! I’m a firm believer of “Community over Competition” and strive to help each other grow our businesses! I am a very happy person and I always have a smile on my face! I love to share that joy and happiness with everyone I meet!
“My passion is photographing couples and showing their love for each other; to capture that spark that makes their heart skip a beat!”
Why is photography your passion?
I don’t look at what I do as just taking photos, I look at it as capturing and celebrating a couple’s love for each other! I’m very passionate about photography and am a firm believer that photographs are one of the only things you can look back on to remember your life as it happened. Being able to capture those precious moments between a couple and helping them design their home decor so they’re surrounded by their memories every day is what drives me each day.
How’d you develop your style?
I was born and raised in the country on a beautiful farm back home in Minnesota! Due to my never ending love for the countryside and all things romantic, photographing couples in a beautiful country location has become my specialized style of photography! Exploring beautiful places around the world and capturing a couple’s love has always been my dream!
