3 Fun Weekend Getaways Within Driving Distance of Home | Southern California
Dreaming About Life + Traveling!
Lately I’ve had a LOT of time to sit and think. To think about what the future looks like for us in the military. What our future will look like after the military. Dreaming of all of the beautiful places that I want to travel to within that timeframe. Dreaming of all of the adventures I want to take with my husband. Just thinking about life in general!
Something that I’ve always wanted to become is a destination wedding and engagement photographer!!!
A chance to combine two of the things I love the most, photographing each couples unique + beautiful love story and traveling to beautiful places that inspire me.
It’s one of my biggest dreams in life and I’ve finally come to the realization that it’s about darn time I turn that dream into a reality!!!! Can I get a HECK YES! I’m all kinds of excited to finally make this happen!
3 Of My Favorite Fun Weekend Getaways!
So in light of that and knowing that YOU too might enjoy traveling just as much as I do, I wanted to share 3 Of My Favorite Fun Weekend Getaways that are within driving distance of home if you live in Southern California!
Over the last year I’ve had the chance to visit all three of these beautiful places myself and have fallen head over heels in love with them! I know you will too!!!!
These 3 BEAUTIFUL places are absolutely PERFECT for a destination engagement session, an intimate destination elopement, or a small destination wedding! If you agree and LOVE to travel too then girl LET’S CONNECT and make it happen!
Last November my husband and I visited this adorable little mountain town here in Southern California to photograph a romantic Idyllwild engagement session near the Idyllwild Nature Center!
You can see their Romantic Idyllwild Engagement Session here!
While we visited Idyllwild we loved the slower pace of living that they have here and how friendly everyone was! The restaurants, stores, and lodges are family owned, they have beautiful art galleries you can walk through, and the STUNNING views of the mountainside FILLED with trees that stay green year round!!! I will never get enough of the views here!!!! It was a nice change from the normal fast paced life we’ve gotten used to since moving to Southern California!
It’s definitely a beautiful place for short fun weekend getaways to!
#2 Zion National Park
Earlier this year my wedding planner friend, Tiffany from Baldwin Bridal and Events, her boyfriend, Daniel, and I made a 4 day trip out to visit Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park for a some gorgeous Destination Sessions. Zion was my favorite by far from this trip!
You can read the full blog post about our Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park adventure here!
There’s a small town just outside of the entrance into Zion and then inside the park the views were AMAZING! I’ve never seen anything quite like it before with the beautiful red colors to the rock mountains that tower over you and everywhere you look has a completely different view!
We went hiking on the Emerald Pools Trail while we were there and went all the way up to the Upper Emerald Pool! The entire way up I was in complete AWE of the view overlooking the park and of all of the beautiful little nooks and crannies along the way up!
After out hike back down the trail we came across a small group of deer that were just casually roaming the lawns of the lodge thats in Zion. I can honestly say I’ve NEVER been able to get that close to a deer before, EVER! It was a really neat experience.
When you visit this park, I do highly recommend at least taking 2-3 days to explore it, minimum! It’s definitely one of my top favorite for Fun Weekend Getaways!!!
#3 Yosemite National Park
Of course I saved the BEST for LAST!!! Yosemite National Park I can honestly say, has my heart! It is another one of my top favorite for Fun Weekend Getaways!!!
While it doesn’t have the beautiful red color to the rock like Zion does, just the massiveness of the entire park with the mountains COMPLETELY surrounding you, the beautiful valleys, and the many waterfalls it is DEFINITELY a must-go-to destination!
My husband and I came to Yosemite on a last minute Fun Weekend Getaway for my birthday this year over Memorial Day weekend! We stayed at a cute AirBNB in Fresno over the weekend!
The next day we drove through the park to see all the different views throughout the park and watched the sunset over Glacier Point! Being able to see the sun set over Half Dome and the valley below at Glacier Point was STUNNING!

Yosemite is one of those places that when you visit it you ask yourself “Is this even real life? Am I dreaming?” because it’s THAT GORGEOUS!!!
When you visit Yosemite, I don’t recommend going on a holiday weekend! We spent 5 HOURS sitting in traffic INSIDE of the park itself and couldn’t find parking anywhere. I’ve been told that fall is the best time to visit so you don’t have as many people crowding the area around you and so you can enjoy it more peacefully!
I will be making another trip here to Yosemite this coming September and I seriously CAN’T WAIT!!! I’d love to connect with some fellow travel loving couples to photograph them while I’m here too! If this is YOU then GIRL we TOTALLY have to CONNECT!!!
If you know someone that would LOVE LOVE LOVE this Fun Weekend Getaways inspired blog post too as much as we do, then feel free to share it or Pin it to Pinterest!
