Happy Thursday!!!! I hope your week is going well!!!
Throwback Thursday to last Sunday, May 29th, 2016, which happened to be my 27th birthday!!! No I don’t really feel old. Haha! In fact, I actually feel wiser. This past year a LOT has happened (I mean it when I say A LOT!). Last year this time I was currently living in Waynesville, Missouri for three months while my husband was at his MOS school (Marine Occupation School) at Fort Leonard Wood (an Army base in Saint Robert, MO). Since my birthday last year I’ve lived in Missouri, moved back to Minnesota for a whole whopping week, packed up ALL of our belongings, moved here to Southern California to Camp Pendleton (by Oceanside), settled into our new home, made some great new friends, decided that I will now only be specializing in photographing couples deeply in love (weddings, elopements, and engagements!), David left for two and a half months for more training to become a boat mechanic, I started online school with Martinsburg College to further my education and to enhance/grow my business, I’ve been working my butt off to network with other wedding vendors in the SoCal area, participated in a couple bridal shows (Menifee, CA at Wedding on the Greens and San Marcos, CA at Bheau View Ranch), and I’ve been working hard to learn and grow my wedding photography business!!!!
So it’s been a whirlwind of a year, but I LOVE it!!! It was really really great this past weekend over Memorial weekend to take some time off to spend time with my handsome husband and explore some of Southern California!
Sunday, since it was my birthday, I got to choose where we went exploring and what we got to do!!! David took me out to eat at Olive Garden before we drove up to Laguna Beach! Olive Garden is literally my favorite restaurant! Their chicken and ghnocci soup with breadsticks and the garlic fettuchini alfredo over angel hair noodles topped with their fritta chicken is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE meal in the WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD! I’m pretty sure I could live off of pasta if it wasn’t so loaded with carbs!!!! I also had a Berry Sangria! Yum! First one of those!
One thing you should know about me, I’m a romantic at heart and I LOVE to explore EVERYTHING in detail!!!! Once we got to Laguna Beach we went around the Laguna Beach downtown area to explore all of the cute little shops and walk through the different art galleries!!! Being a creative I’m naturally drawn to all things artsy! Art is so beautiful to see!!! Also being a wedding and engagement photographer and always helping client plan their own home decor, I’m also naturally drawn to interior decoration and home decor!!!! It’s an addiction I swear!!!!
Since it was my birthday, I could do what I wanted and almost get away with anything! I had my husband take photos of me throughout the day and I photographed him too. Which was SUPER EXCITING because I NEVER get to photograph him! You’d think being married to a professional photographer that he’d get used to me photographing him ALL the time, but nope, he likes to play “hard to photograph” with me most days! I keep telling my hubby that we should be a husband and wife photographer team, but he always declines telling me he’s not a photographer and isn’t very artistic or imaginative!
This old vintage bug was just too cute!!!! 😀 Slug bug no returns! (<— please tell me I’m not the only one who still plays that game during car rides!?!)
He may look like he’s in “deep thought” about the artwork, but this is really his “another photo?!” face! Bahahaha!
I was BEYOND EXCITED to see this perfect cactus in the perfect spot when I walked past it that I HAD to photograph it! I’ve always seen those awesome travel details shots from other photographers that I follow and have been dreaming of having my own cactus photograph like that, well, NOW I DO!!! Love it!
Thought this sculpture was TOTALLY COOL! I didn’t take it at quite the right angle to really see the details of it, but they’re made out of old vintage camera’s!!!! How awesome is that!!!
I adore seashells and jewelry!!!!
While browsing the shops and galleries I came across this artists shop. I stopped by to look through his work and he came over to tell me how he created his artwork! He started out with going to college for sculpture and then he came up with this awesome idea of photographing his sculptures under different lighting at different angles!!!! He showed me how he did it and it was INCREDIBLE!!! They’re so vibrant and colorful!!!! I purchased one of his art prints and he signed it for me!!! Can’t wait to frame it and hang it in my office!!! Such an inspiration!

We stopped at one of the Laguna Beach overlooks and I loved how they incorporated this quote into the dock!
“In this fleeting moment what extravagant respite as booming surf speaks its mystical passage across the undreamed depths.”
I’m a coffee addict! I admit it! While we adventuring, we found this adorable little coffee shop outside of one of the art galleries! The lady who ran it was SO SO SO sweet!!!! She recommended that I try a chocolate chai tea latte!!!! OMG was it good! So chocolatey!!! Highly recommend them!
Isn’t he such a sweetheart when I photograph him!!!! I couldn’t help it! It cracked me up!!! He heard me photographing him while he was looking through the binoculars. Hahahaha!
David found this adorable little pet shop, Puppies and People Too!!! They have adorable american flag bandanas for dogs that slides directly over their collar, so many cute designs on their leashes and collars, cute doggy decor, dog toys, and a great selection of dog treats!
Funny story: We’ve been looking for a dog bone for my dog, Lexi, that she won’t chew through in 15 minutes. David picked up one of the bones and asked the store owner what her thoughts were on that bone. She suggested a different bone that might work called a, Bully Bone. I picked it up, smelled it and inspected it closer. It smelled HORRIBLE, but knowing that it was a real animal bone, I shrugged it off. That is until she told me WHAT animal bone it was. Fun fact: The Bully Bone, is in fact the smoked bone of a dead bulls penis. Yup. A BULL PENIS! To think that I smelled it and held it. AGH!!!! I was SO SHOCKED! My parents raise cattle on their farm back home in Minnesota and they have several breeding bulls, so just KNOWING where that bone came from…….. I don’t even want to think about it! Hahaha! David and the owner got a kick out of my expression at least!!!
I’m pretty sure this was my favorite art gallery of the day!!! The Dr. Suess art gallery of all of his paintings, drawings, books, sculptures, and artwork!!!! OMG was it incredible!!! HIGHLY recommend going to see it!!! Apparently his wife lives locally here in La Jolla, CA!!! How cool is that!
Funny story: I walked into this adorable clothing store in Laguna Beach while I was storefront browsing and seen these adorable little glass bottles with the quotes on them. My husband picked one up, put it back down, and laughed. He told me he thought it said “Follow your fart!”. Hahahahaha! Cracks me up all the time!!!!
I loved the saying on that tank top!!!
“I must be a mermaid, I have no fear of depths, and a great fear of shallow living.”
One of the street musicians we watched while we were there. I thought it was so cute that they were a grandfather and granddaughter duo!
This store is a interior designer and home decorators DREAM!!! I could walk around this store for HOURS and still find something new to see!!!! I love the colors, the details, and all the inspiration there!!!!
Oh look!!! We found an ALIEN!!! An alien vintage bug at least!!!! How cool is that!!!
Just before sunset we headed down to 1000 Steps Beach in Laguna Beach, California!!!! It’s not REALLY 1000 steps on the stairs but my husband and I got to thinking that it could be 1000 steps across the beach itself?! I don’t know! Anyone else know why they named it 1000 Steps Beach?
It was absolutely BREATH TAKING, watching the sunset together here! One of the many things I love about living here in California is that I can watch the sunsets at the beach!!! They’re so beautiful!
While we were watching the sunset I found a couple of guys photographing with film cameras!!! I asked them if they could capture a couple shots of us on the beach during sunset!!!! I absolutely ADORE these photos!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!!! I’m so thankful for those two guys!!!
Because I’m a romantic at heart! I had to! Haha!
May this post inspire you to visit Laguna Beach and explore it yourself!!! Do you know someone who would love this post and would love to know more about Laguna Beach, CA?! Share this post with them and share it onto social media!!!
