How to Choose the perfect wedding venue!
How to choose the perfect wedding venue is no easy task. Especially since there is SO many different options out there and there’s so many variables that go into how to choose the perfect wedding venue for your wedding. But choosing the perfect wedding venue IS one of the very first things that you need to decide on after you’ve chosen your wedding date. Without a wedding venue it’s hard to start planning the rest of your wedding.
So here’s some quick wedding tips on how to choose the perfect wedding venue.
Talk to your wedding planner.
The very first step in how to choose the perfect wedding venue would be to talk to your wedding planner.
If you’ve been following along with me you’ll know that I’m a strong advocate for couples hiring a wedding planner. Simply for the fact that they have a list of amazing wedding vendors that they know, have worked with + do quality work, and that they trust to refer to you for your own wedding! Plus the amount of time and stress that they will save you is worth 100x more than what they charge for their services.
Be sure to check out my blog about “Wedding Planner vs Venue Coordinator” so you know the difference and can see all the things that a wedding planner will help you with!
If you already have your wedding planner hired go ahead and talk to them about what venue’s they’d recommend to you for your wedding based on the style of wedding your going for and the number of guests that will be attending. They will be able to give you recommendations on how to choose the perfect wedding venue and will go with you on the venue tours to give you insight into layout + design options for your wedding and talk to the venue coordinator with you.

Choose a venue that aligns with your vision and who you are together as a couple.
One thing that I can’t stress enough to couples is to look for venues based on who you are as a couple and how YOU want your wedding to look! Don’t worry about the “latest trends”. Stay true to who you are and the vibe you want for your wedding. This is YOUR wedding day so you want to make it so it fits who you guys are together as a couple and not base your decision on what everyone else is doing or what’s “popular”.
Questions to ask yourself to help you figure out how to choose the perfect wedding venue:
- Are you more of an outdoorsy couple or a urban/city type couple?
- Do you want a large wedding or a smaller intimate wedding?
- Do you have any places that are special to you that you could do your wedding at? Examples: places you’ve traveled to together, your favorite beach, your favorite museum or places to explore, where he proposed, etc.
Know roughly how many people you’re inviting and what you’re total wedding budget is.
It’s ok if you don’t quite know EXACTLY how many guests you’ll be inviting, as long as you know a rough number. When you’re searching for the perfect wedding venue also keep in mind the kind of experience you want your guests to have there, how easily accessible it is for them, and what kind of lodging is nearby.
When considering your wedding budget, keep in mind that it’s not just the cost of the space that you have to account for. You also have to account for what other wedding vendors you’ll need to hire to make your wedding vision come to life in that particular space. For example, some wedding venue’s offer a full package where they provide the table, linens, dish ware, catering, a bar, etc. While other wedding venue’s only offer an empty space and you will have to find the other wedding vendors on your own (or with your wedding planner) to fill that space.
So keep that in mind when you’re searching for the perfect wedding venue and when you do the venue tours.
Consider the time of year your wedding will be.
How to choose the perfect wedding venue will also depend on what time of year your wedding will be and in what state your wedding will be in. For those of you planning your wedding in Southern California you have more freedom on what dates to choose for your wedding because it’s normally nice weather year round. If your wedding is in the Northern part of the United States or where you get colder weather/snow the dates you’ll be able to do your wedding and what wedding venue you choose will also play a factor into what wedding venues you want to be looking at.
Talk to other couples and vendors who have used this venue before.
When you’ve narrowed down your choices on the perfect wedding venues, you want to do your research to look at reviews and also reach out to some of the couples who’ve had their wedding at that particular wedding venue. This step is extremely important!
When you’re looking through the venues reviews and talking to other couples who’ve had their wedding there, be on the lookout for specific things and ask them questions. How was each couples experience with the venue and the staff? Was the venue easy to work with or did they run into any problems? Does the venue have any particular requirements that might not work for what you need? What did each couple love the most about that venue? Did they have any complaints about the venue?
You want to make sure you do your research and ask the questions so you don’t run into any problems yourself for your wedding day!
