“Hire a wedding planner!” Tip Tuesday by Kayla Illies Photography. Southern California based wedding, elopement, and engagement photographer.
Today’s wedding planning tip is based off of personal experience. Our wedding was back on June 19th, 2010 (6 years this year!!!! YAY!). When we first got engaged I had the idea in my head (I’m sure you can relate!) that you can plan your entire wedding all on your own, that it’ll be fun, stress free, and super easy. Please trust me when I tell you, this is not the case! Yes it’s fun planning all of your wedding details, choosing your flowers, going dress shopping, etc. but what you don’t realize yet is how stressful it really is and how time consuming it is when you have an already super busy life! From personal experience of being a past bride, I can tell you it’s EXTREMELY stressful and put more stress on our relationship than it was worth. From trying to get your fiancé to help you make decisions and both of you agreeing on something, to making sure EVERYTHING gets done before the day of the wedding.
There are two BIG things I would’ve changed about my wedding day.
#1. I would’ve hired a wedding and event planner to help me find all of the perfect vendors, to help me make my wedding vision come to life, and to help coordinate everything on the day of the wedding instead of relying on family and friends to do it when they were supposed to be enjoying the day too.
#2. I would’ve hired a professional wedding videographer or wedding cinematographer. To say the least, the video I DO have from my wedding is that of someone videoing it from there phone with all the distracting noise in the background. But MORE ON THIS ONE LATER!
Hire a wedding coordinator ladies and gentlemen!!!! Don’t be stubborn like I was and think you can do it all on your own! Your wedding and event coordinator will have an endless list of all of the wedding vendors you’ll need to plan your wedding, they know the good vendors from the bad vendors, they’ll have the connections with them to help you reach your dream wedding vision, and they’ll help guide you through step by step on what you all need to plan for your dream wedding, how to do it, and when you need to have each step in the wedding planning process completed by. Your wedding planner will be worth their weight in gold at the end of the day and you will be so thankful to them for being there to help you along the way!
Having a wedding planner not in your budget? Save up to hire one, cut something else out of the budget (not the photographer or the videographer either!), or at the very least hire a wedding coordinator to do “day of coordination” for you!
